“Haru no Umi” is a koto piece composed by Michio Miyagi in 1929.
This piece is one of the representative pieces of New Japanese Music, often played as a duet of koto and shakuhachi.
New Japanese Music was a musical movement from the mid-Taisho to the early Showa period, rooted in the traditions of Japanese music,
While rooted in the traditions of traditional Japanese music, it also incorporated elements of Western music and transcended the boundaries of disciplines and schools to create new Japanese music.
Haru no Umi” was also created during this movement, and is now familiar to all Japanese people.
It is also used as a teaching material for music appreciation in elementary schools.
