What kind of music would you like to play if you could play the shakuhachi?

This time, we would like to introduce three representative shakuhachi pieces that would be cool if you could play them.

1. Tsuru no Sugomori (the nesting crane)
This piece, which expresses the flight and chirping of cranes, describes the birth of a baby crane, its departure from the nest, and the death of the parent crane. According to one theory, it was composed based on the title of a Buddhist scripture that explains the importance of parental love.

2. sagariha
This song is said to have been played as a musical accompaniment for the return of the floats of the Gion Festival. It is characterized by the use of breath and rhythm like a north wind blowing through the air.

3. mukaiji
One of the oldest traditional tunes, it is called “Koden Sanpoku” together with “Kokuu” and “Kyorei,” and is known as a secret tune that should be especially respected. It is said that “ji” means the ancient Chinese transverse flute.
